The Library at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track Education Librarian.

Summary of Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing library services to students and faculty, particularly in the School of Education and the Department of Health and Exercise Science (in the School of Nursing, Health and Exercise Science). Services include subject-specialized and general reference, user education and collection development. Also responsible for the development and maintenance of the Children and Youth Collection and various Curriculum Materials. Engages in scholarly and service activities expected of tenure-track librarians. Reports to the Dean of the Library.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Serve as liaison to the departments of Elementary and Early Childhood Education; Special Education, Language and Literacy; Educational Administration and Secondary Education; Counselor Education; Health and Exercise Science. Provide all necessary library support for these academic programs.

Collection Development: Serve as collection development coordinator for the above named departments. Work closely with the classroom faculty in the School of Education and the Department of Health and Exercise Science to assess the needs of the academic programs in order to select library resources in varied formats, including Curriculum Materials and Childrens Literature.

Reference: Provide general reference service and research assistance in collaboration with the other public services librarians. Provide in-depth reference service to both undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in the School of Education and the Department of Health and Exercise Science. Some evening and weekend duties required.


Information Literacy: Initiate and provide instructional programs targeting students and faculty in the School of Education and the Department of Health and Exercise Science. Provide individual and small-group consultation/instruction regarding education and health and exercise science resources. Participate in general library instructional programs.

Additional Responsibilities: Serve on Library and institutional committees. Participate in professional organizations; contribute to research, scholarly, and professional conferences and publications; carry out other activities required to attain tenure.

Qualifications: Required: Masters degree accredited by the American Library Association and awarded by the time of appointment. Educational background and/or experience in a relevant discipline. Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills. Initiative, flexibility, and a strong service orientation.

Preferred: Significant experience using education and curriculum resources. Work experience in academic libraries, particularly collection development, reference and instruction. Knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies. Additional graduate degree in an appropriate discipline. K-12 teaching and/or experience working with graduate/returning students highly desirable. Record of service and/or scholarship.

Title and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. (FY09 Salary ranges: Librarian III, $49,124-76,148; Librarian II, $59,713-92,569) Full benefits package including TIAA/CREF. This position is available immediately.
