Description
The College of New Jersey Department of Music invites applications for a Director of Choral Activities, Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor beginning August 2010.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and direction of one or more of the Departments large choral ensembles (Chorale, College Choir, Women Ensemble); teach introductory and intermediate choral conducting courses; recruit students; be active in department and college service and advising.
Minimum qualifications: completed D.M.A. in Choral Conducting or commensurate experience at the time of application deadline; a varied record of conducting excellence; college/university teaching experience beyond the level of teaching assistant; demonstrable experience in collaborating with others to develop a holistic music curriculum; record and promise for creative and/or scholarly achievement commensurate with a highly competitive liberal arts college; and the expectation and potential for distinguishing oneself as an artist and teacher-scholar in the field on local, regional, national, and international levels.
The ideal candidate will offer a model for inspired and skillful teaching and be a creative thinker with an interest and skill in building community through singing and connecting with other constituencies. The School of the Arts and Communication enrolls about 650 majors across four programs and offers the degrees of BA, BFA and BM. The Department of Music is home to approximately 120 undergraduate students and enjoys a reputation for excellence in training musicians for the degrees of Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Performance and most recently a Bachelor of Arts in Music.
