The College of New Jersey seeks an accomplished and experienced professional to serve as the Vice President for Human Resources.
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is a highly selective institution that has earned national recognition for its commitment to excellence. Founded in 1855, TCNJ has become an exemplar of the best in public higher education and is consistently acknowledged as one of the top comprehensive colleges in the nation. The College employs over 1000 employees in academic, classified and non-unit areas.
This senior position reports directly to the College president and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. The Vice President is responsible for the strategic management of all operations of the Office of Human Resources. The scope of responsibilities include working with academic, classified and non-unit staff regarding employee relations, benefits, labor relations and local negotiations, compensation, professional development, and payroll. The Vice President will work with the President's Cabinet to ensure that institutional policies regarding attracting, developing and retaining a diverse workforce are applied appropriately. The successful candidate will provide leadership for a staff of 16 responsible for human resource and payroll functions.
The successful candidate will have:
*A bachelors degree in human resources management or other related field and 7-10 years of varied and increasingly responsible human resources management experience, including supervision of a unit
*A thorough understanding of employment practices, techniques of recruitment, selection and evaluation, employee benefits, and human resources information systems functions and operations
*Success in developing campus programs in professional development, management/staff training, succession planning, leadership development, and building relationships
*Excellent written and oral communication with an understanding of the constituent groups of an institution of higher education
*A commitment to excellence, shared governance, diversity, and strategic decision making
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
*Earned a masters degree
*Exhibited a proven track record in higher education
*Experience within a union environment, including participation in collective bargaining
