The School of Education at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member, assistant professor rank preferred, in science education with an elementary school focus to begin in August 2010.
The College of New Jersey is nationally recognized for its strong focus on teacher preparation in science and mathematics content and pedagogy. We are seeking a candidate with a strong science background in physical, life, or earth science;, an earned doctorate in science education or a closely related field; and experience in teaching science methods to early childhood, elementary, and special education majors. The candidate will be responsible for teaching science methods courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Supervision of undergraduates in our specialized mathematics and science field placements, as well as occasional student teaching supervision are required. Knowledge of differentiated instruction and methods of inclusion is essential. The candidate will be part of a collaborative team that manages our extensive collection of science resources. This position resides in the School of Education;, however the candidate will collaborate with colleagues in our interdisciplinary Center for Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education.
In addition to an earned doctorate in science education or a closely related field, the successful candidate will have a successful research agenda, a proven record of excellence in teaching in an early childhood or elementary school setting, and a record of successful teaching in the college classroom. Candidates will also demonstrate the willingness and capability to implementing technology in delivering instruction. Candidates who are ABD will be considered only if they are candidates in an advanced stage of dissertation preparation and all degree requirements will be completed by June 30, 2010.
The School of Education serves more than 2000 majors across four departments, and offers the degrees of BS, MAT, MEd, and EdS. The Dept of Elementary and Early Childhood includes majors in both elementary and early childhood education at both the undergraduate and MAT levels.
